Mentoring on Collaborative Research: November 13, 2025

This HMC Mentor­ing Event invites schol­ars to share their expe­ri­ences with collab­o­ra­tive research, provide tips and tricks for form­ing and main­tain­ing research collab­o­ra­tions, and to offer network­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties with the glob­al HMC commu­ni­ty to get start­ed with collab­o­ra­tive research projects. We are excit­ed to welcome four distin­guished guest speak­ers to chat about their work!

  • Dr. Cameron Pier­cy: Asso­ciate Profes­sor at the Univer­si­ty of Kansas (USA) and Direc­tor of the Human-Machine Commu­ni­ca­tion lab
  • Dr. Esther Greuss­ing: Research Asso­ciate at the Tech­ni­cal Univer­si­ty Braun­schweig (Germany)
  • Dr. Jindong Leo-Liu: Assis­tant Profes­sor in New Media and Social Media at The Educa­tion Univer­si­ty of Hong Kong

Dr. Selma Šabanović: Direc­tor of the R‑House Lab for Human-Robot Inter­ac­tion, Profes­sor of Infor­mat­ics and Cogni­tive Science, Luddy School of Infor­mat­ics, Comput­ing, and Engi­neer­ing, Indi­ana Univer­si­ty Bloomington

Dr. Jing­wen Zhang: Direc­tor of the CHATR Lab, Asso­ciate Profes­sor, Depart­ment of Commu­ni­ca­tion, Univer­si­ty of Cali­for­nia, Davis.

Orga­nized by the Student and Early Career Repre­sen­ta­tives of four ICA divi­sions – Chil­dren, Adoles­cents, and Media (Amber van der Wal), Human-Machine Commu­ni­ca­tion (Marco Dehn­ert), Inter­per­son­al Commu­ni­ca­tion (Jean­nine Teichert), and Mobile Commu­ni­ca­tion (Morgan Quinn Ross) – this one-hour session will offer prac­ti­cal insights from expe­ri­enced schol­ars on how to deliv­er engag­ing, impact­ful, and well-struc­tured presen­ta­tions, followed by an oppor­tu­ni­ty to ask your own ques­tions. Our goal is to help you navi­gate ICA with confi­dence and make the most of your presen­ta­tion opportunities.
